- Biography:
- Tamiko Nimura, a third-generation Japanese American and second-generation Filipina American, is a freelance writer, essayist, community journalist, and public historian living in Tacoma, Washington. She has done research on Japanese American history in Tacoma and has written about the former Japantown (Nihonmachi) and the Tacoma Buddhst Temple, which is now part of the UW Tacoma campus footprint. Together with Michael Sullivan, she leads the Tacoma Japantown Walking Tour to educate the public on this neighborhood history. Michael Sullivan (b. 1950) worked as the historic preservation officer for City of Tacoma and headed the newly established Cultural Resources Division from 1990 until 1995, coinciding with the planning period of UW Tacoma's permanent campus. He has taught a course on the history of Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest at the University of Washington Tacoma.
