- Biography:
- Vickie Lynn Carwein (b. 1948) was the first chancellor of University of Washington Tacoma. She joined UW Tacoma in 1995 as the new dean, succeeding Bill Richardson. Born in Gwynneville, Indiana, Carwein grew up in Indiana and was the first in her family to attend college. Prior to UW Tacoma, she began her academic career at University of Nevada Las Vegas as an instructor of nursing and later served as dean of the College of Health Sciences. After UW Tacoma, she served as the president of Westfield State College in Massachusetts and then chancellor of Washington State University's Tri-Cities campus for six years. She was later the chancellor of the former Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) from 2012 to 2017 before she retired. She holds a doctorate in nursing from Indiana University and master's degree in nursing from University of California, San Francisco.
